You can't fix apathy

What do we do about global warming? How do we combat obesity? Why is the sky blue? How do we solve world hunger? How do you make a spaceship travel faster than light? We already have the answer to all but one of these questions. And even the one we don't yet have the answer to has dozens of theories on how to make it work. The questions we should be asking are why haven't we FIXED global warming, world hunger or any of the million other questions people ask? Virtually any question people ask in the course of their day already has an answer, just ask Google. So, if we've already solved most of humanities problems (and aside from philosophical questions we really do have most of the answers) why in the hell are there still so many problems? The answer to this question is just as simple as the answer to all of the questions I've already asked in this article (except maybe the faster than light question). People just don't care. I have witnessed fat people having parts of their bodies AMPUTATED and still they go home and eat a carton of ice cream. NEWS FLASH!!! You are dying because you eat too much! Does this revelation drive them to change their habits? Does having parts of their own bodies cut off serve as enough motivation to get them to eat healthy portions and cut the crap from their diets? Nope. If having parts of your own body removed isn't motivation enough for change, what possible chance does something like climate change, clear cutting of rain forests, or recycling have? None. I'm putting pen to paper (so to speak) simply so I can have something to point to fifty years from now, when everyone along the gulf coast is being displaced due to sea level rise. When we flip on the evening news and see some dip-shit crying about how their house is now underwater and asking "How did this happen!?" Meanwhile we flip on the heating/cooling system brought to you by fossil fuels, then drive to the grocery store in our gas powered SUV (that has never been off the pavement) and buy mass-produced foods, which by some estimates are responsible for one third of our greenhouse emissions. (Nature.com) The interested parties have done such a good job at misdirection many people still don't believe global warming is real. This despite congress declaring global warming is in fact real (although for some reason they are still unsure of its cause... Wtf). So once again we have the bulk of the population chasing their tails while the house is burning down around them (us). Anyone and everyone who cares to look for an answer is able to find one. We all know what should be done, and yet we collectively do nothing. How can this be? "Well I'm already this fat, what possible harm could one more ice cream be?" For whatever reason we are lulled into this mindset, and it usually takes something catastrophic and immediate to get us to change (think of the life-long smoker who is diagnosed with lung cancer and suddenly musters the will to quit smoking). It is for this reason that I hope Greenland slides into the ocean tomorrow. Because until something catastrophic happens, we will continue to allow those who's interest is their own profit to buy policy. This is detrimental to us and our planet, but in the best interest of their shareholders.
